Fast Tip Friday: Be the Bus Driver of Your Own Success

Oct 10, 2025 6:00:00 AM

Hey everybody, welcome to another Fast Tip Friday. It’s Charlie Houck—President, Lead Trainer, and maybe formerPresident by the time you watch this.

Here’s an idea for today. I’m going to make it quick, I’m going to make it simple, and I’m going to make it something that’s made an enormous impact in my life.

I stopped hoping I would have time to do the things I wanted to do—and started committing to scheduling the things I wanted to do.

As we get older, we get wiser. We gain the beauty and power that come from the scars of our mistakes—those lessons life leaves on our minds, our bodies, and our souls. I’ve found there are always moments where I could have made a better decision—if only I had a plan, a clear focus on what mattered most, and the commitment to stick to it.

So my advice to all of you is this: yes, life will always throw things at us. We’ll need to be flexible, nimble, and ready to adjust. But what truly matters is having a calendar filled with the things that are important to you—not just in business, but in life.

If you don’t schedule those things, you’ll always be at the mercy of other people’s plans—and those plans rarely align with your goals or priorities.

So here’s my parting message for the week: if you want to get things done, if you want to go places, meet people, and experience everything the world has to offer, take out your calendar. These phones are powerful tools—they put control right in your hands. Schedule those appointments. Commit to doing those things. And don’t be afraid to tell other people “no.”

Your life is worth that enjoyment. It’s worth the success and control you want to have. Don’t give away your freedom.

I’ve found that the more I scheduled, the more freedom I had—because it gave me the power to say no. And as a result, I started to truly enjoy more of what mattered most to me.

So stop riding on other people’s buses. Be the bus driver of your own success. Start that commitment the moment this video ends—and live your life by a calendar.

It works out better. Trust me, I’ve done it both ways, and one is definitely better than the other.

Take care, and have a great weekend.
