Fast Tip Friday: Have a Successful Q2

Apr 5, 2024 7:00:00 AM

Look, we've just entered into the first few days of Q2, quarter two of 2024, and I always liked specific things on the calendar to trigger different thoughts and processes and times to reflect on what you're going to do to increase your viability and success as you move forward throughout the year.

I like looking at things in 90-day segments, quarters, they tend to be the time frame that the human brain manages most effectively if it's not something that's immediate. So here are a couple things I'd like you to think about as you move into Q2 and want to have your best results early in the year.

ONE: Take a look at your first quarter and see what your behavior was really like and make sure you're really committed to getting out there, making the calls, having the contacts, and creating business conversations with people at a level that will support the success for you, hitting your goals both for yourself and for your company. So don't let your success get stuck behind a lack of commitment to doing the activity that's required.

TWO: Look at your process and your performance. I'd like you to give me three things that you think you should improve in your skill set to help you be more consistently successful when you're pursuing opportunities or trying to generate opportunities. So what do you need to improve on? Do you need to get better at verbal business cards or creating compelling conversations? Do you know how to track the process that you're working in? And can you really tell people the name of the meeting or you having a fact finding a discovery? Or are you really at a point where everyone needs to know the next time we're going to talk, we're going to talk about a decision not continuing the conversation? So look at those opportunities to improve your game. The pro baseball people just came out of spring training. The games count now. You should be out of spring training and your game should count every day when you're out there.

THREE: Look at where you really have become ineffective in your personal management, not just on the job but in your personal life. Are you really taking a good look at your personal finances? Are you looking at your ability to create a nest egg and security for yourself in the future? Have you looked at what you're really doing with your fitness and your health? Have you taken the advice of your professional service providers and done the things that they'd like you to do to get healthier, more fit, more capable? Are you committing to the time that you want to spend with the people that are most important to you? I'm a grandfather and I love spending time with my grandkids and it is hard now that they're old enough to be involved in a million and one other things but I think I'm at a point where I need to start scheduling time with the little group I call the three amigos. They mean the world to me and I don't see enough of them to enjoy it as much as I can.

So I think you should look at A, are you where you want to be? Do you have a plan for the quarter ahead of us? Two, do you know how to make yourself more successful in this quarter? And three, have you done an inventory of the things you want to improve on in your life, not just your work? And if you can use those things and really commit to them, have an emotional connection to those personal rewards and satisfactions, I think that will help fuel the success on the first two points that I've shared with you today. So that's it for this Fast Tip Friday. Have a great weekend, enjoy it after a week of hard productive work, take care and we'll see you next Friday. Thanks.
