Hey everybody, welcome back! Charlie Hauck, President, Founder, Lead Trainer, Problem Maker, Problem Solver at Growth Dynamics, here for another Fast Tip Friday.
As we approach the end of the year, I want to focus on some general reminders about maintaining control. It’s important to do what you can do and not worry about what you can't control. So, this week’s fast tip is to remember that there are only two things in life you can control: what you do and your emotional reactions to the things that happen around you.
When we try to step outside those boundaries, that’s when frustration, aggravation, and often fear and anxiety begin to set in. So, if you focus on what you can do and how you feel about things, you’ll find that’s really all you can take ownership of.
You can influence situations and help others see your perspective, but never ask yourself, “What can I do to make this person do something they aren’t doing or that I want them to do?” The answer is nothing. You cannot make anyone do anything or feel the way you want them to feel.
So, save yourself the time and aggravation. Become more disciplined and focused on what you can control: your actions and emotions. Let that guide how you interact with others, how you progress from point A to point B, how you encourage others to call you back, give you a purchase order, say yes or no, schedule an appointment, or get past the gatekeeper.
These challenges can drive us crazy in the business development world. Focus on what you can do, manage your emotions, maintain a positive attitude, and take ownership of the results you create. It’s that simple, but it can also be that hard.
So, that’s your reminder for this week. Be prepared to enter next week with that discipline and focus to create your own success. Have a great weekend!
