Hey everybody! Welcome back. It's Charlie Hauck, President, Lead Trainer, Founder, Growth Dynamics.
Here again, I like short bursts. I don't like big long stories. I'm into headlines, not details. But this is one that kind of impacts both headlines and details. So I want you to think about it as you go about your business day in and out, but I really want you to think about it when you're in those moments where you don't know if urgency or hysterical behavior is actually going to get you where you want to go.
So what's the idea? It's a phrase that sounds like it's nonsensical, like those things like jumbo shrimp, loose tights, clean dirt. It doesn't seem to make sense. But when you look inside the concept, it makes huge sense. So the one I want you to think about is: slow down. We're in a hurry.
If you think about packing to go on vacation or something comes up and you've got to collect all your stuff and get it in a suitcase or in a backpack so you can get where you want to go, one of the things that a lot of people tend to do is just run around like a chicken with its head cut off. And what I find is when I admit that I'm exhibiting that behavior, inevitably I leave something behind that I really shouldn't have left behind. In fact, I went to Vermont a couple months ago. We were in a hurry to get out of town, and when I opened the back of our van the next morning, I had left our suitcase in the kitchen. I went to Vermont without a change of clothes for four days.
I don't want you to be in that scenario. I don't want you to be stuck buying a sweatshirt and underwear somewhere you don't want to do it. So slow down. We're in a hurry. Instead of rushing to get in the car and get gone, slow down. Check your list. Do it twice. Think of Santa Claus and be ready to have everything that you need when you get where you want to get to. Don't get there and be exasperated because you were going so fast to complete the preparation. Slow down, take your time. A couple minutes late isn't as bad as being totally unprepared or unequipped for the work or project that you're trying to focus on. Let it happen and it'll take care of you. Give yourself a chance to breathe.
Thanks for watching. Have a great weekend. Slow down. You're in a hurry.
