Fast Tip Friday: Reframing Accountability for Success

Jul 10, 2026 6:00:00 AM

Okay, everybody. Charlie Hauck back again with another Fast Tip Friday.

Hope you're all doing well.

I'm going to dip into a word that seems to make a lot of people in the business development world kind of cringe and think, "Uh-oh, not that." But hey, let's dive into it.

Short and sweet application idea this week: let's talk about that nasty word, accountability.

Frankly, nobody's career is going to go anywhere without some level of accountability. And if you don't understand how important it is, you've never truly been in the business development field.

Get yourself plugged in and understand accountability is not an exercise in micromanagement by your bosses or your company. It is a tool. It is a practice that can help you be more consistently successful, truly enhance your results, and make you smarter about what makes you as successful as you are—or, frankly, not as successful as you'd like to be.

So, look, here's what I've got to tell you.

Most companies have some sort of accountability machine in place, whether it's a CRM or a simple paper-and-pen accountability system monitored by a sales manager or someone who's in charge of making sure people are doing their jobs.

But look, if your company doesn't hold you accountable, please don't make that an excuse for you not holding yourself accountable.

Do the stuff that a lot of people aren't willing to do.

Put yourself into a disciplined approach to how often and how much business you pursue.

Don't wait for someone else to tell you you're not working hard enough. Start doing it. Start counting it. Start seeing the results of a commitment to accountability.

The quicker you're willing to do that, the quicker you're going to give yourself a raise.

Make accountability part of your success in 2025.

Thanks for watching. Thanks for listening.

Have a great weekend, and get ready to keep track of what you're doing next week.

Take care.
