Fast Tip Friday: Set Realistic Goals

Jan 24, 2025 5:15:00 AM

Hey everybody, happy New Year! It's Charlie, president, founder, and lead trainer at Growth Dynamics, launching another year of Fast Tip Friday content for you.

I’ve been talking to a lot of clients about setting goals and becoming more personally committed to the success they want to see in 2025. I wanted to share one particular idea with you as you start thinking about what would make 2025 your best year ever.

One thing we’ve noticed over the years is that people often treat goal setting as a collection of big leaps forward or grand proclamations about how great and big their success will be. They set lofty, out-of-nowhere goals that sound amazing in theory, but the chances of actually achieving them are slim to none.

So, here’s a reminder: success often comes in small steps and small doses. Big and bold goals can quickly turn into frustration and disappointment if you don’t have a realistic plan to get from where you are today to where you want to be.

I’m not saying to play it safe or tone it down, but I am saying to take a moment to celebrate everything you’ve already accomplished. Set yourself up for success by making sure your goals are SMART—specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound. You don’t need to impress anyone by claiming you’re going to the moon when you haven’t even stepped out of your own kitchen yet.

Be real. Scare yourself. Dare yourself. But don’t disappoint or fool yourself by setting goals with little chance of success.

That’s your fast tip to start the year. Good luck, good business, and go make money. See you next week!
