Hey everyone, it’s Charlie Hauck, President, Founder, Lead Trainer, and Partner at Growth Dynamics. I’m here with another Fast Tip Friday.
I often let my client experiences inspire my ideas for these Fast Tip Friday topics, and my most recent idea comes from an ongoing situation with a client. They’re a nice client, they have a good company, and we’ve been working with them for about six or seven months now. A lot of exciting things are happening there.
One thing I’ve noticed, as is the case with every company, is that they face their own set of challenges. Some of these challenges are more common than others. This doesn’t mean the company is good, bad, or indifferent. They’re just trying to break through and reach the next level—a phrase I’m a little tired of, but it fits. They’re a good company with good people.
And that brings me to the topic I want to talk to you all about today: getting your focus on the right part of the process. The piece I’m talking about is the people you work with—not the tasks or the results you’re trying to produce. When we focus on and nurture the people we interact with, the results, consistency, growth, and willingness to take risks will far exceed your expectations. You’ll see people trying things they never thought they could do. And when you nurture them as good people, they’ll commit to becoming even better performers.
So, I want to remind everyone out there: whether you’re a manager leading a team, a company owner looking to create growth opportunities for your employees, or someone working in business development with prospects, suspects, and current clients—focus your effort and energy on protecting the ego and nurturing the person. When you care about people as individuals, they will strive to exceed your expectations as performers. Whether that’s through buying from you, listening to you, taking your advice, or sharing information they haven’t shared with others, they will be more willing to engage.
Get your priorities right. Don’t be so focused on the results that you forget to focus on the people you’re asking to produce them. Take care of the people, and the production will take care of itself. That’s one of the biggest tips I can share, and I hope you’ll listen and put it into practice.
Start at home this weekend with the people you know and love, and watch the magic happen right before your eyes. Take care, have a wonderful weekend, and on Monday, go out and nurture the people in your world. Both your life and theirs will be better for it.
