Hey, normally I try to stay in business attire, talk to you about business things, dressed as a business person. But as you see, today, I've got a I've got a bike jersey on.
I really have been thinking a lot about why we do what we do, what it means to our lives and our our personal success, and our personal ability to live the life that we want to live through the success that we create in business development.
So, I put this jersey on today as kind of a reminder. It's the it's the end of the summer season that we typically think of, before everybody goes back to school. We're into the first, almost the second week of August, and I think about all the people that I know that have said, "Oh yeah, I haven't taken my vacation. I normally don't ever take on my vacation". Frankly, I have to admit, it makes me want to scream.
I see these people - hardworking, committed, professional, successful. For some reason, they think it's heroic to take the free time to recharge, re-energize recenter, possibly reconnect with the people that they love and care for the most, and they don't take advantage of that opportunity. They think it's heroic to work another week, take their work on vacation, leave their vacations early. Too many of them just don't take their vacations, like it's a badge of honor.
So, I really wanted to remind everybody today, if you're doing your job consistently, day in and day out, you're entitled to those breaks. From those opportunities to reward yourself for a job well done for a commitment that you've made to the success of yourself, your organization, your clients, your marketplace. And so I wanted to put this jersey on today to remind everybody to go out and play.
Get on your bike, paddle your kayak, go to the waterpark with your kids. Go visit your family far, far away. Go spend a day digging in the sand on the beach, go climb a mountain, hike a trail. Just go do something to give yourself the reward for all the effort and energy that you've put out there.
You've earned it. You should use it. You deserve it. Go play. Enjoy yourself in life. Don't make your job more important than it should be.
